The Challenge
Olio Italian needed a brand identity that mirrored the sophistication of their hand-made pasta and curated wine program. The challenge was to create a visual language that felt upscale and modern, yet maintained the warmth and intimacy of their dining experience without feeling stiff or inaccessible.
My Role
I led the brand development from the ground up, serving as the creative lead for the entire visual system. I was responsible for everything from the initial logo concepts to the environmental and tactile touchpoints, ensuring the brand’s visual identity felt as curated as the chef’s menu.
Design Decisions
I moved away from common trattoria tropes. Instead I developed a visual language that blends contemporary minimalism with classic European charm.
I explored a wide range of logo concepts to hit the perfect note of chic minimalism. The final mark was refined to feel as deliberate as the chef’s daily specials and the restaurant’s sommelier-selected wine list.
I treated every physical element, from menus to merchandise, as an extension of the interior space. By maintaining a cohesive aesthetic across all guest touchpoints, I reinforced the premium nature of the brand, making the identity feel as carefully crafted as the pasta itself.
The Outcome
The brand identity successfully positioned Olio Italian as a modern destination that honors its heritage. The project was brought to life in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the design was implemented across the physical restaurant space, earning high praise for its unique menu and atmosphere.
